Happy Birthday to Rick Ankiel, 34. Enough to make you a baseball fan.
The good stuff:
1. Nice one from Nate Silver on patterns and presidential elections.
2. More on ACA implementation from Jonathan Cohn.
3. Sarah Posner on Hobby Lobby.
4. And Steve Benen on the GOP-aligned partisan press.
Re the Benen piece, Christopher Buckley quoted his father (William F) as saying "Half my life has been spent trying to separate the Right from the kooks." Erickson's mission is to separate the kooks from their money.
ReplyDeleteToday's GOP is dedicated to undoing that separation.
DeleteThe Hobby Lobby case is very interesting... One can easily see its precepts extending into less popular, more problematic religious beliefs. Would a company run by scientologists be able to opt out of providing psychiatric care? Would a company run by Muslims be able to deny treatment for alcoholism?
ReplyDeleteHendrik Hertzberg on Hamilton on the Filibuster (also on the non-representative nature of the Senate):

Friday baseball posts?
ReplyDeleteThanks for asking! And, as you can see, I did one this week.
DeleteI basically dropped them during the heavy Watergate months, and then it's taken a while to get back into the swing of it. With any luck, I'm back to it at least mostly regularly now.
Excellent news!
