It has definitely been entertaining reading different commentators invoking LBJ, most implying Obama should twist arms then others criticizing him for acting too much like LBJ, e.g. strongarming Patterson in NY, trying to clear the field for Specter and Gillibrand.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6926413038778731189.post-76710694239454801522010-02-24T18:53:48.417-06:002010-02-24T18:53:48.417-06:00Isn't most of the stuff about Coolidge apocryp...Isn't most of the stuff about Coolidge apocryphal?

I'd be very surprised if anyone dared to dominate a room that President W. was in. They might manipulate him and get what they want...an observer might conclude that Cheney or whoever was "really" running things (perhaps -- we need more info still to know what was true and what wasn't), but I'm pretty sure that W. would not look kindly on anyone who made any of that obvious. Think about the nicknames thing, for example.Jonathan Bernsteinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15931039630306253241noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6926413038778731189.post-38914101902149324572010-02-24T18:11:41.036-06:002010-02-24T18:11:41.036-06:00What about Silent Cal?

Granted, this isn't all that dissimilar to FDR's style of running (some) meetings, but FDR was doing all sorts of Machiavellian schemings in letting one person or the other talk.Matt Jarvisnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6926413038778731189.post-55917119978680380332010-02-24T13:24:47.508-06:002010-02-24T13:24:47.508-06:00Thanks!Thanks!Jonathan Bernsteinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15931039630306253241noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6926413038778731189.post-55066664454372570172010-02-24T13:20:39.109-06:002010-02-24T13:20:39.109-06:00Jonathan:
