Maddow/Olbermann pretty much have the same place within their two hours (plus rebroadcasts) as Hannity/O'Reilly have within theirs. The real difference is during daytime: Fox is all GOP, all the time, with the GOP tilt including theoretically "straight" news while the NBC newsroom is completely disconnected from the Maddow/Olbermann (and Matthews, and the other guy they have on now, I forget his name) portion of the network. Besides which, MSNBC has an actual conservative Republican host for its morning show; it's inconceivable that Fox News would have, oh, David Bonior host one of its shows. Within prime time, though, I don't see much difference.Jonathan Bernsteinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15931039630306253241noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6926413038778731189.post-85625268428182870942009-12-02T17:42:56.344-06:002009-12-02T17:42:56.344-06:00As an addendum to the press's self interest, I...As an addendum to the press's self interest, I would mention advertisers, who have much more influence on reporting than do average citizens.

Also, Fox News is indeed part of the Republican network, but MSNBC is nowhere near as connected to the Democrats. They have Rachel Maddow, who is one of the most left-wing journalists in the mainstream these days, and Keith Olbermann, who is more a crankypants than an ideologue. But in general, I think MSNBC aspires to centrism. People like Glenn Beck ARE Fox News ... Rachel Maddow does not occupy a similar position relative to MSNBC. I don't know what a Democratic Party version of Fox News would look like, but I imagine it would be more partisan than MSNBC.Mon-sewer Paul Regrethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04918972562626522624noreply@blogger.com
