I don't imagine you're saying that Specter would change his gender as well as his party in order to stay in the Senate, though that was the first interpretation that came to mind.Neil Sinhababuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03249327186653397250noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6926413038778731189.post-4862938528504682022012-10-22T23:49:43.132-05:002012-10-22T23:49:43.132-05:00I recognize that this isn't really a good way ...I recognize that this isn't really a good way to judge individual character (John Edwards!) but I see a special glow around everybody who did something important to make health care reform pass. I totally agree about the Anita Hill badness, but this is somewhat redemptive.Neil Sinhababuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03249327186653397250noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6926413038778731189.post-13473440011719706122012-10-22T15:54:55.745-05:002012-10-22T15:54:55.745-05:00OK, I'll tell you what was improper. This was before a bunch of other witnesses, independently of each other, testified that she had made the same claims about Thomas contemporaneously with the events. Plus, perjury is a criminal charge that has to be proven. Hill was never charged with perjury.

Thomas was some kind of sleazy porn addict who liked to chat up the ladies about his "Long Dong Silver." If you're Specter, you can criticize the committee chair for the belated way that came out, but attacking a private citizen the way he did was beneath contempt.Jeffnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6926413038778731189.post-88197805425373999522012-10-22T14:21:53.612-05:002012-10-22T14:21:53.612-05:00His questioning of Hill was the best I have seen b...His questioning of Hill was the best I have seen by a senator. Many liberals were upset but I have not heard them state what he said that was improper. I recall that the "seriousness of the charge" of sexual harassment was so great it was considered blasphemy to question any woman claiming to be victimized.Mercernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6926413038778731189.post-22383509489274647592012-10-22T11:32:31.823-05:002012-10-22T11:32:31.823-05:00He voted against Robert Bork.He voted against Robert Bork.Scott Monjenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6926413038778731189.post-38228706470157345472012-10-22T11:29:03.320-05:002012-10-22T11:29:03.320-05:00I never much cared for Specter, but I find him end...I never much cared for Specter, but I find him endlessly fascinating.
