Stalin was never going to be a teddy bear, but Truman, Byrnes et al. acting like the A-bomb had eliminated the need for diplomacy? Not a pretty sight.Andersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02325205512110155291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6926413038778731189.post-52510385356783645842010-03-16T06:44:26.545-05:002010-03-16T06:44:26.545-05:00I love the topic and your insights but I think Rea...I love the topic and your insights but I think Reagan is the overly honored president.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6926413038778731189.post-35484922907393887882010-03-15T20:04:36.552-05:002010-03-15T20:04:36.552-05:00Leave Grant in his tomb and on the $50 bill. A much more filling way to honor Ronald Reagan would be to have his jaunty, smiling face engraved on a brand-new article of paper money, created just for the occasion: the $1,000,000 bill. I'm sure that there are quite a few of his wealthy admirers who could afford to acquire and frame one of those bills as a momento.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6926413038778731189.post-30181052558249078012010-03-15T15:30:27.324-05:002010-03-15T15:30:27.324-05:00No, just as its not a coincidence that Grant is mo...No, just as its not a coincidence that Grant is mostly known as a ruthless, corrupt, drunk.Jonathan Bernsteinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15931039630306253241noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6926413038778731189.post-4395055841854672042010-03-15T14:56:36.023-05:002010-03-15T14:56:36.023-05:00Considering the South is now the base of the Repub...Considering the South is now the base of the Republican Party, is it just a coincidence they want to bump Grant?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6926413038778731189.post-20557282920779191712010-03-15T13:55:13.776-05:002010-03-15T13:55:13.776-05:00Yeah; I'm not convinced. Even if you blame him alone for the decision to go to war and consider that a terrible decision -- both of which could be debated -- I give him quite a lot of credit for maintaining civil liberties during the war, an example that subsequent presidents, alas, have not followed. And of course, outside of the presidency, there's the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the explanation of American democracy in the Federalists, etc., etc.Jonathan Bernsteinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15931039630306253241noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6926413038778731189.post-26597090326835947402010-03-15T12:56:27.408-05:002010-03-15T12:56:27.408-05:00There's a case against Madison. There's a case against Madison.chrismealyhttp://chrismealy.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.com
