OK, as usual, I'll start with something to skip...this time it's the matching op-eds in the Sunday Times about Vietnam and Afghanistan. Yeah, I know, it's Tuesday and you've either read them or you're probably not going to, but if you're feeling bad for skipping them...you shouldn't. There's not much there.
OK, on to the good stuff.
1. Double shot of TNC: this one from a couple of weeks ago, which I won't try to categorize, and this one more recently about Rush, the NFL, and other stuff.
2. Jack Shafer is sometimes too grumpy for my tastes, but when he hits it solidly, he's well worth reading. You probably should avoid this one if you're a big Russert fan.
3. The Jonathan cabal: this time its Zasloff on the solving the Democrats' Charlie Rangel problem.
4. This WaPo story is a good reminder that it really does matter who wins presidential elections, in all kinds of ways that most of us rarely hear or think about. Reading it won't solve democratic frustration (winner's variety), but it might help a little.
5. I'm pretty sure that Mark Kleiman is right about the money from the Nobel.
6. I'm not as sure that I agree with Publius about the debate over health care, but I'm very confident he's worth reading on the subject. Smart stuff.
7. Noah Millman on higher education. I should warn you: I think this post gets off to a slow start, but if you're interested at all in colleges and higher education the second half is something that you'll want to read.
OK, you have your assignments. Get to work!
