Dogs, Not Barking

A recurring item about things which are not in the news -- which is itself newsworthy.

1.  Iowa and marriage.  It's been a year now that same-sex marriage has been the law in radical lefty Iowa, and no one seems to care.  As far as I'm aware, it's not really much of an issue there; here's an article from last month giving an update.

2.  All the other judicial nominees.  This is actually a big deal...can the Senate walk and chew gum at the same time?  Alas, we all know the answer to that one.  I'd like to see far more reporting on it, but there's just no way that the most visible media will do it.  Hey, actually liberal media -- I'm looking at you, TPM -- are you going to keep following the other nominations, or just the SCOTUS pick?

3. I don't really watch the cable nets enough these days to be sure about this one, but: have they given up, or at least massively slowed down, on the "white woman gets murdered" thing?  No new Chandra Levy, no new Aruba murder...if there's a current one, I'm really not aware of it.  Is it possible that it's finally played out?  Or am I just not noticing it.

4.  Yes!  Fighting against the reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine was in the new Tea Party-inspired Maine Republican Party platform (thanks, Weigel)  Not just in there -- it's item 1f.  That's higher up than the anti-ACORN plank, repeal of Motor Voter, UN bashing, or term limits.  That's in the news; what's not in the news, of course, is any actual interest by the Obama Administration or Congress to actually revive the Fairness Doctrine.

  1. There's a BIG white-woman-got-murdered story up right now, only the suspected perp isn't a Democratic congressman or some black guy, but a lacrosse player from Chevy Chase; so not very good culture-warrior fodder.

  2. Looks like you put the fear of Bernstein into TPM! They posted a piece on stalled judicial nominations a few hours after your post.

    Good work!

  3. You're right; as a current Iowa resident I can confirm that gay marriage repeal is, at MOST, a back-burner issue, if not a fell-behind-the-stove-and-no one-cares issue.
