Sunday Question for Liberals

Prediction time for the new year: who are we all going to be talking about in 2012? Someone, that is, who we were not talking about in 2011?

  1. Sherrod Brown, I hope. He is my favorite US Senator and will be withstanding a horrid SuperPac blitz. He needs Elizabeth Warren-level fervor from progressives or he may get tidal-waved outta office.

  2. Santorum surges. A veritable gusher of Santorum surges.

  3. Simpson-Bowles didn't get anything close to fair consideration last year, but it will this year. (Caveat: I'm prone to excessive optimism.) Nonetheless, it was an amazingly well-crafted plan. Good summary here.

  4. I'm thinking Tammy Baldwin and possibly the Republican Veep pick (could be a surprise). Otherwise, Enrique Pena and whomever emerges from the elections in Libya and Egypt.

  5. Let me turn it around. Kucinich got gerrymandered out of his Ohio congressional district. Looks like he'll be challenging Marci Kaptur in the primary. Joe the Plumber has registered as an R candidate. I don't know what their primary line up is.

Either Kaptur or Kucinich - each a true progressive - will become a non-entity.

    Sadly,

  6. Kathleen Falk (aka probably the next Governor of Wisconsin)

  7. Cory Booker. I predict he gives a huge speech at the Democratic convention and runs against Christie in 2013.

  8. Whoever defeats Scott Walker in the Wisconsin Gubernatorial Recall Election.

  9. And I agree that Sherrod Brown needs everyone's support and all the love possible from the Left. He has been polling well ahead of President Obama here in Ohio, but his opponent the state Treasurer has raised a ton of money, and both American Crossroads and U.S.Chamber of Commerce are already on air here with big TV buys full of negative advertising attacking him and distorting his record.

  10. Whichever retired fake deficit hawk politician (Kerrey, Bayh, etc.) America Elect picks as its Presidential nominee.

  11. I'm hoping one new name is Assad's successor in Syria. The sooner the better.

That would be a very, very fun race and a good development for 2012.
