I skipped the news coverage.* Romney won everywhere. What else is there to say? I mean, you all know that I'm a political junkie, and especially a nomination politics junkie, but I'm not going to pretend this is in any doubt or that there's anything significant at stake any more.
The remaining question is only whether Santorum will drop out, either this week or perhaps after Pennsylvania. Hey, I can think of one thing to say: it doesn't really make much sense for him to drop out after Pennsylvania. Why? Because if he wins PA and loses elsewhere that day -- that's Connecticut, New York, Rhode Island, and Delaware -- then, well, he's in terrible shape anyway. So why still around for three weeks just to risk embarrassing himself by losing his home state? On the other hand, if he intends (for whatever reason) to stay in to the bitter end in order to get a few more helpings of publicity, then why drop out after a PA loss?
So, as usual, I'll add that you never know what goes on in the mind of any particular politician, but my general sense is that if Santorum would exit after losing Pennsylvania, he's better off exiting this week.
*I may have mentioned this before: I play pickup hoops on Tuesday nights. It's a good pickup game, for the most part -- not as good as the legendary noon game at DePauw that I was lucky enough to join for a year, but still pretty good. And I really hate to miss a week, although I've had to for some of the more serious primary nights. I do check what's going on between games, and really all I'm missing is the fun of watching the election returns; it's not as if they're any different if I don't check until late. I'm pretty confident that I'm not missing anything important in the commentary, other than (at times) some easy targets for cheap blog posts and the twitter machine. I suppose I've missed a few election night speeches, but I've heard Romney plenty of times and I'll hear him again plenty of times, and the others just aren't all that much fun, at least most of the time. Anyway, the whole thing makes me a bit crabby, but I'll get over it. I guess.
Would waiting for PA to vote help him if he wanted to run for the Senate / Governor in PA later?
ReplyDeleteDo you really think The Frothy One has any hope of winning any elected office in PA again? Not. A. Chance!!
DeleteYou were at DePauw for a year? (It's where I got by BA.) When?
