Happy Birthday to Faye Dunaway, 72. As it happens, I just watched both "Bonnie and Clyde" and "Chinatown" again in the last few weeks; as big a Warren Beatty fan as I am, I do think she's the best thing in Bonnie and Clyde, and when she's in a truly great movie, in Chinatown...well, she'll do until someone else comes along.
Also, some good stuff:
1. Greg Koger: against majority-imposed Senate reform.
2. John Sides on the possible electoral effects of what House Republicans are up to.
3. You've seen it by now, but Ezra Klein reports: no coin.
4. Stan Collender explains the WH strategy.
5. Sarah Kliff on Roe at 40.
6. And the White House response to the Death Star petition.
The problem with the WH strategy if Collender is correct is that Obama is not a sociopath and (most of) the House GOP are. I don't really believe that Obama is going to allow default to happen with all the dire global economic consequences that would follow and neither do House Republicans.
ReplyDeleteWait a minute ... Bonnie and Clyde isn't a truly great movie?
ReplyDeleteI sort of don't think so. Great moments, yes, and obviously important to history...but to me, it doesn't quite cohere as a truly great movie.
DeleteOr, to put it another way, it's awful good, but more a rank-and-file Gaylord Perry HOFer than an inner-circle Mays/Bonds HOF.
OTOH, I could be wrong, and I don't actually disagree with anything here:
