Sunday Question for Conservatives

Is CPAC a good representation of conservatives? If not, what should conservatives do about it?

  1. It is not a good representation of conservatives. It is organized by the American Conservative Union, headed by Al Cardenas, a strong advocate of open borders who made sure that not a single immigration restrictionist was on the immigration policy panel. It is really outrageous for a conservative organization to sponsor an immigration panel and not invite Mark Krikorian, the Executive Director of the Center for Immigration Studies, to be on it. A clear majority of conservative Republicans in the USA are immigration restrictionists, but only Ann Coulter and Donald Trump reflected this from the CPAC podium. I do not think there is much of anything that conservatives can do about this, except withhold contributions from the ACU.

  2. It is not a good representation of conservative thought. It relies too heavily on speeches by the likes of Ann Coulter whose talks are so easy to discredit that conservative ideals get lost in the nonsense. It is easy to attack good conservative ideas when radicals present bitterly foolish statements.

  3. Ignore it. It's a side show. Nobody would have paid serious attention to it in the 1980s, and thoe only reason it attracts notice now is that bloggers with nothing better to do are looking for politics-related material to comment on.
