What Mattered This Week?

Senate reform matters, so I'll say that the bipartisan group put out a proposal that wasn't a complete joke probably counts. If you don't like that: Hawaii's new Senator may well be there for 25 years or more, so that matters, too.

Can I use that it doesn't matter whether a fiscal cliff deal is reached this week or next? Because I don't think that it does. Matter, that is. Starts mattered after that, though...

Well, that's what I have. What do you think mattered this week?

  1. According to the people who know about this sort of thing the Assad regime in Syria is increasingly desperate. Yglesias also pointed out that the new Japanese government is embracing new ideas in terms of monetary policy. Also it looks like we are going to go over the cliff.

  2. Democrats pull gun control out of their back pocket:

    1. I read that and I like it. Can only hope that something remotely like that becomes law.

    2. Yaramah, I think it's a risky proposition for Democrats. They want to outlaw the sale of the most popular rifle in the country and to also ban the sale of most full sized handguns with the standard magazines they're designed for.

I think Democrats are scared that this is the one part of the culture war that they're loosing as time goes on. I read this as a desperate effort to either squash it, or to at least use the media to turn the tide of public opinion.
