Hey, it's the United States of America -- lots of days are election days. That's one of the things that makes it a great country. This one is of more than local interest, though -- MA Dems are nominating a candidate for Ted Kennedy's seat. Via TPM, polls close at 8PM, Eastern Time. And via this guy, internal polls last week were all over the place, but the question was whether Martha Coakley's lead was holding or shrinking; she's winning, and I'd guess she'll win.
Should that happen, and then assuming that any Dem will win the general and wind up in the Senate, Coakley would be the record 18th woman to currently serve in the Senate -- and would give women 14/60 or 23% of the Democratic caucus in the Senate.
I'm not certain, but I believe that Pennsylvania is the largest state that has never had a female Senator. However, I heard that Arlen Specter is willing to considering switching.
