Getting Away With It

Time to pick on the liberals, who seem to constantly believe that they are always getting beaten up, while conservatives....well, here's Steve Benen:
And at the Tea Party "convention" today, former Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.) told unhinged activists that President Obama was only elected because "we do not have a civics, literacy test before people can vote in this country." Tancredo, in other words, seems to regret the end of Jim Crow laws. Only Republicans can get away with such insanity....
Sure, Tancredo is getting away with it.   He's an out of office politician, whose party got clobbered over the last two election cycles, and who has no chance for any real success with his big issue (granted, it's not as if immigration reform that he opposes is going to pass anytime soon, but neither is the United States about to deport millions of Mexican-Americans -- as with most things, there's stalemate).  He gets to speak to one faction, apparently the relatively more pathetic faction, of a "movement" that barely exists.  I mean, he's "getting away with it" in the sense that people who agree with him aren't going to disown him over such statements, but so what?

Seth Masket shows the correct way to sneer at someone in that position.
