I'm not a conservative, but the most insightful, intelligent, and entertaining conservative I know of is Reihan Salam.

ReplyDeletePat Buchanan, still on the McLaughlin Group though banned by MSNBC. I do not at all agree with his anti-free trade views (I work for a hedge fund that obtains the majority of our invested funds from abroad), but he has a first-rate mind and an independent view of political life that does not consistently line up with Republican talking points. He is willing to say politically incorrect but statistically accurate things about race, which is a valuabe attribute for a commentator to have, since so few are willing to publicly be politically incorrect about such topics (John Derbyshire just got fired from National Review for being too honest about how most suburban whites tell their children to avoid walking throught majority black neighborhoods after dark).
ReplyDeleteI'm going with Larry Kudlow. Not for the politics; I find that he has an almost Greenspan/Randian faith in the perfection of unfettered free markets, which after all this time comes across as just a bit delusional.
ReplyDeleteThat said, he's warm and humorous; unlike many Republican pundits he seems like a guy with whom you could disagree without automatically ratcheting up the hostility. We need more pundits with that equity, it seems to me.
The only man in political talk radio worth listening to is Michael Medved: best Republican nomination and election prognosticator, reliably down-the-line Republican, Progressive to neo-con convert with family in Israel, high IQ.

ReplyDeleteNo one else finds Mike Huckabee's show incredibly soothing and the man himself almost ludicrously likeable? I haven't had cable in years, but I did use to tune in from time to time. He projects sincerity and thoughtful concern in a slightly dweeby way that makes him seem actually concerned and actually sincere (unlike that other Arkansas governor who felt our pain) and actually struggling with these issues. He comes across as a person who takes Christian forgiveness seriously enough to issue massive numbers of pardons, and completely not as a person who would +/- suggest that Palestinian Arabs are not human beings. It's confusing.
