Read Stuff, You Should

Happy Birthday to Tony Bennett, 86.

The good stuff:

1. I'm not sure if there's much point to keep mentioning that Mitt Romney's tax plan doesn't add up, but for whatever it's worth, Mitt Romney's tax plan doesn't add up. From Sarah Kliff.

2. Conor Friedersdorf calls out The Crazy.

3. And Brendan Nyhan argues that Romney is the new Al Gore.

  1. At some point in the future, I'd be really interested in hearing your thoughts on the following book (or its authors' scholarship in general):
    http://press.princeton.edu/titles/9751.html
"The Reputational Premium: A Theory of Party Identification and Policy Reasoning" by Paul M. Sniderman and Edward H. Stiglitz

This back-cover blurb in particular piqued my interest, because it outlines the American political paradox that most perplexes me, especially with regard to the GOP:

"The Reputational Premium dramatically advances the study of political parties and vote choice. Sniderman and Stiglitz provide a powerful new theory of party identification that helps make sense of a central puzzle in contemporary American politics: how polarized political parties can thrive alongside a far more moderate electorate."--Eric Schickler, University of California, Berkeley

    1. PF, I'll chime in.
Sniderman & Stiglitz both have pretty stellar reputations for the quality (and volume!) of their respective research agendas. Sniderman & Carmines is still something of a bible in studies of racism.

I hadn't heard of this book before you posted it, but I instantly had to order it.
